Our Story

✨ Welcome to TayaBella
TayaBella didn’t start with a storefront.
It started with an idea that wouldn’t leave me alone.
Hi! My name is Brandie Johnson. Around 2010, while I was doing hair in Pleasant Hill, I kept thinking about creating something of my own — a space that felt different. Somewhere that offered more than just hair. Somewhere people could come for an experience, not just an appointment.
The thought followed me until it stopped feeling like a dream and started feeling inevitable.
With $500, I bought my first round of inventory and began setting up home parties anywhere someone would let me. Living rooms, small gatherings — wherever there was space. Every dollar earned went right back into growing something I believed in, even before I fully knew what it would become.
By July of 2012, that belief turned into reality when TayaBella officially opened its doors, combining both sides of my world — hair and boutique — under one roof.
From the beginning, the heart behind TayaBella was simple and non-negotiable:
This would be a place where people are fully accepted as they are.
A place where women don’t feel the need to shrink, hide, or dim their light.
A place that reminds you of your beauty, your confidence, and your worth — sometimes before you’re able to see it yourself.
Over time, clients became friends. Conversations went deeper than hair or outfits. TayaBella became more than a business — it became connection, trust, and a space people felt safe walking into exactly as they were.
Years later, I moved TayaBella to Lee’s Summit believing it was the next step forward.
But something was missing.
The space was different. The feeling was different. And slowly, I realized I had drifted away from the very thing that made TayaBella special in the first place — authenticity.
It took two years to finally listen to what my heart already knew.
Coming back home changed everything.
Because the truth is, TayaBella was never just something I built.
It was a reflection of who I am.
Returning didn’t just bring the business back to life — it brought me back to life too.
It reminded me why I started.
It reminded me what matters.
And it proved something I understand now more than ever:
When you stay true to who you are, the right people find you, the right energy returns, and everything falls back into place exactly where it belongs.
TayaBella isn’t just where this journey began.
It’s where I found my way back to myself.
And that feeling — that acceptance, that confidence, that sense of belonging — is what we hope every person who walks through our doors feels too.
Welcome to TayaBella.
Much Love, Brandie-Owner of TayaBella
